Even though most franchises would view missing the playoffs as a failure...as a long time Marlins fan, I'm glad to see my team finish competitive and above .500, you always need a building block for the next season

There are really some tough decisions to be made this offseason...Of all the players that could leave the team, Olsen is perhaps the best candidate...He's been good to us but can be horribly inconsistent

The playoffs are out of reach for this season for our Fish, but that doesn't mean the season cannot end on a positive note. If the Fish can end the season by winning a couple of their last games, and our young stars can show a glimpse into how they are capable of playing in the future, and we can retain at least some of our current stars, we have a lot to look forward to next summer. Only half of the teams get to win their last game of the season...Go Fish!

Tax me I can afford it. I want a new stadium. I'm not happy about the location though. They should have put it in Broward County. They had a real opportunity to make something like a Fenway Park or a Wrigley Field with the stadium in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The area around the Orange Bowl has been dilapidated since I was born. Great food, but hate the drive.

Really, I don't get why people complain about their tax money going towards
stadiums. They say that they don't need the new stadium, and they'd rather
see the team leave and go somewhere else. However, having pro sports teams
around is a major boost to the economy, therefore it's a good idea to keep
them happy. It's hard to see it sometimes though.

I live in Minnesota. When the NHL went on strike, all the businesses near
the Xcel Energy Center where the Minnesota Wild play, suffered, nearly to
the point of going out of business. Even though the Marlins might not draw
in the same crowds that other teams do in MLB, or other leagues for that
matter, but there is no doubt in my mind that it would significantly affect
local restaurants and retail outlets to lose the team.

Basically, people that complain about paying the tax for the new stadium
should keep their mouths closed, and do what's best for the region.

Minnesota, Pittsburgh, and Washington all have stadiums (in Minnesota's case not finished) paid for by taxpayer dollars. I'm sure they were all controversial too. At least the Marlins stadium is part of a broad package to try and revitalize an area.

It shouldn't matter whether or not the area is actually revitalized...Cities spend countless millions attempting this all over the country, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't....If the Marlins can profit in the process, why not?! We want to keep them and this allows for it!

I'm not sure if there are really any words to actually describe this. I know
it was a semi-respectable paid attendance, but how only 600 people show up
is beyond me. I mean, I know it was hot and humid, but damn it, it fricking
MIAMI, it's hot and humid there a lot! Fine, it was mid-week game, and the
Fish aren't looking so good to make the playoffs, but 600?! I can only pray
that this never happens in the new stadium. Selig will want to send us to
Puerto Rico or something if it happens there.

Go to the damn game and drink cold beer! Would Cubs fans skip out on an
afternoon mid-week game because it's hot and humid (which does happen in
Chicago)? Hell no! They are real baseball fans. I hate our fans. We suck.
Well, I don't, but a lot of us do!

I am a Marlins fan from a climate no where near as appealing as the climate of Miami. If given the opportunity to watch my favorite baseball team play a game outdoors on a beautiful summer day - I would be there in a heartbeat! I guess the saying is true - you never know what you have got until it is gone! Hope that doesn't happen to the Marlins.

It is inconceivable that only 600 people show up...I agree, how could these people prefer to be at work instead of taking advantage of the wonderful weather we're blessed with in South Florida and going to the ball park.

As far as the 10,611 tickets sold. That number is probably from season ticket holders (About 10,000 if the numbers work correctly), who cannot attend every game, and quite frankly, cannot take the time out of the workday to go to a 1pm Marlins game in the middle of the week. I was actually surprised that anybody showed up at all! I wish I was like those 600 people able to take off on a Wednesday afternoon! :-P

Obviously Pelfrey needs a larger baseball cap because the one he currently is wearing is cutting off the circulation to his brain - that is, of course, assuming he has one in the first place! Time and time again, we hear of athletes making promises about a guaranteed victory against their opponent. Then we end up having to hand them a towel to wipe the egg off of their faces. If I was an athlete playing a team sport and one of my teammates made one of those stupid promises in public, I would personally punch him or her in the face. They just serve to inspire the opponent. So the Mets better watch out when the Fish play them next because I would have those remarks posted all over the lockerroom!

Ah, yes, this is the time of the season that can be very hard on a team's fans. Leading us to the brink, and then watching, either in agony or ecstasy, as our team plays its remaining games of the season. I would like to think my Fish will provide me with more ecstasy than agony, but I will also have my fingers crossed as I watch each of the remaining games on the schedule. If only I could give them a little shot of energy to get them through these games with more wins than losses.

The Fish have long struggled to get themselves a decent closer...I think now that the rest of the team is good and the closer is costing us so many games, we need a new closer FIRST PRIORITY in the offseason!

I agree with this. Why is it we always have to deal with closers like this.
Armando Benitez still give me nightmares. I understand it's not easy to find
good free agent closers, but they need to do something. It seems like the
Fish are always taking in cast-offs from other teams to fill the role. Is it
really that hard to develop a closer yourself? The names mentioned,
Paplebon, K-Rod, Nathan, and Rivera, they were all developed as closers by
their respective teams. Fine, the Marlins have pumped out many a good
starter, but why can't we pump out guys that are solid in the bullpen? It's
frustrating to see all the mishaps over the years that the Marlins have had
because they don't have a reliable guy to come into the game in the 8th or
9th to shut the door on the opposition.

All that being said, I think Uggla, Cantu, and Jacobs are more important
pieces. Well, Uggla and Cantu for sure.

We all know the team won't do whats necessary unfortunately...They'll spend some money to keep 2 of 3 mentioned above, likely Uggla and Cantu. A closer is just as important, but we'll end up picking up an unknown discarded from somewhere else...
